  1. I love visiting all of our classrooms and seeing the clever ways our teachers make the room a student centered place to learn! # the best staff ever!

  2. I try to learn everyone's names! Each of my classes did an icebreaker where they got to know each other and introduced themselves.

  3. I try to learn all the kids names too! Making that personal touch with each kid (or any person really) is so important!

  4. I've always allowed chilren to sit wherever they want on their way into the classroom for the first time. This usually means they end up with people they know and are going to feel more comfortable with from the beginning. If they feel comfy to start it's much easier for me to get them to go along with what I'm doing from the start. (I can always move them around in a couple weeks when I see they're "too comfy" with each other and I know them better.)

  6. I always try my best to greet everyone (students and staff) with a friendly smile and a 'Good morning!' everyday! Who couldn't benefit from some positivity to start off the day?!

  7. I start with introductions where everyone gets a name badge and writes an adjective next to their name that describes them i.e. Happy Halai. I also play a fun 'getting to know you' game.

  8. I've changed my frame of mind! I came in telling my teammates that I'm thinking and talking positive and trying not to complain about something unless I am able to offer a solution to the problem.

  9. Getting to know the names of my 6A and 6B students is a nice way to begin to build rapport. When I can pass a student in the hallway and greet him/her with his/her name, I think it helps to create connections and helps the student to feel a sense of community.

  10. We do morning meeting everyday! I have my class do a greeting where we focus on eye contact and a firm handshake. We also do a share which is a great way for my students to get to know one another. I love seeing them realize that they have a lot in common!

Students are loving the new Launch Lab. They come in excited and ready to design, make and build. They feel great about being able to make their own decisions and be creative while applying technology. Student directed learning is bringing the students' self-esteem way up!

  13. My students played a food, name game. This was a fun way for all of us to learn each others names quickly. I also greet them at the door and leave them a short message on the front board every morning. This helps them start their day out on a positive note!

  15. We learn all our students' name on the first day. We start each morning with a handshake and "Good morning" at the door, and a morning meeting. This helps us start the day on a positive day. Students practice positive communication skills, and are learning more about each other and their classroom.
